© The Jan Francis Online Archive, 2007-2016

TV CREDITS Notes:

NOTE #1 Jan also appears in SECRET ARMY Series 2, Episode 2 (Russian Roulette) in the form of a photograph of Yvette.

NOTE #2 Jan makes one final appearance in the very last episode of SECRET ARMY (Series 3, Episode 13: The Execution) again in the form of a photograph as Albert reminisces about Lifeline. [And she would also have appeared in this form in the unbroadcast "final" episode set in 1969 (What Did You Do in the War, Daddy?) as published stills show Yvette's grave (Lisa Colbert 1921 - 1943) with a photo inset into the headstone.]

NOTE #3 The guests for the episodes of POB'S PROGRAMME the week following Jan's appear at the end of Jan's episodes and so presumably Jan appears at the end of the episodes prior to the two she stars in and therefore can also be credited with (brief) appearances in the episodes on 7th December 1985 and 9th March 1986...

NOTE #4 Jan was listed in the relevant RADIO TIMES as being due to appear on the Saturday 22nd March 1986 edition of SATURDAY SUPERSTORE but ultimately did not feature in the programme and no explanation/apology was given for her absence...

NOTE #5 Jan featured in extensive clips from JUST GOOD FRIENDS in the C4 programme TOP TEN TV : LOVERS (transmitted 15/09/01) where viewers' votes put Penny & Vince at No. 1 (ahead of the likes of Harry Enfield's The Slobs, the Gold Blend Coffee Advert couple, and THE FAST SHOW's Ted & Ralph!), but while Paul Nicholas was interviewed Jan was notable by her absence...

NOTE #6 I'M DREAMING OF A TV CHRISTMAS shown on BBC2 on 23/12/03 (repeated December 2008) included a feature on extended Xmas Day Sit-Com Episodes including the JUST GOOD FRIENDS Wedding Episode with Paul Nicholas interviewed (but again Jan was notable by her absence). [Another 2003 "appearance" was in 'That Was the Week We Watched' (26/12/03) which included a clip from the 'Doctor in Charge' episode "The Pool" featuring Jan!]

NOTE #7  C5's GREATEST CHRISTMAS TV MOMENTS, shown 21/12/08 (repeated Christmas Eve), included Penny and Vince's Paris Wedding at #51 and featured interviews with Paul Nicholas and John Sullivan, but still no sign of Jan...

NOTE #8 The ITV3 series BEYOND A JOKE on sitcoms of the 70s and 80s featured JUST GOOD FRIENDS in Episode 2 (The Birds, The Blokes & The Bees), shown 11th May 2009 (repeated on the 14th and 17th), but again just Paul Nicholas and John Sullivan were interviewed...

NOTE #9 The final episode of JUST GOOD FRIENDS featured at #44 in SKY3's 50 GREATEST TV ENDINGS first broadcast on Christmas Day 2010 - sadly but predictably Jan wasn't interviewed (nor indeed was anyone else from the show).

General Note:

Slated by critics when screened in 1975, CHURCHILL'S PEOPLE has never been repeated and was later chosen as an entry in THE A-Z OF TV HELL (all-time worst television!) in a 1992 Poll.

TOTAL TRIVIA NOTE: Jan wasn't the first person to appear as Penny Warrender on BBC 1 in the 1983 as a Penny Warrender (played by Sandra Dickinson) featured in the series of 'TRIANGLE' starting May 1983 (as well as the 1982 series). [TRIANGLE being another entry in 'THE A-Z OF TV HELL'!]

And 'ITN SOURCE' also suggests another credit:
"SECOND CHANCE (JANUARY). Date: 20 Feb 1981. Yorkshire Television. Drama. 60 Minutes

As Kate's business begins to prosper, Chris feels increasing unhappiness with life alone and he contemplates a move abroad. Romantically for Kate there is a surprise in store and Chris, with Bunty's help, re-discovers an old telephone number.

JAN FRANCIS appears."

Series title: SECOND CHANCE (Series 1)

Programme title: SECOND CHANCE

Production title: JANUARY

Cast:

SUSANNAH YORK - Kate Hurst

KATE DORNING - Jill Hurst

RALPH BATES - Chris Hurst

MICHAEL CULVER - Richard Seymour

JAN HARVEY - Frances Sterling

But it wouldn't be the first time Jan has been confused with Jan Harvey:
